Michael Winslow – ‘The Man Of 10000 Sound Effects’
Is it possible to make 10000 sound effects with just the human voice? I think so. If you were an 80’s kid like me you’d probably remember the film ‘Police Academy’. Michael Winslow, also known as ‘The Man of 10000 Sound Effects‘, plays the character ‘Jones’ in the movie. When I saw Jones, my belief was reinforced. What belief? That ‘any’ sound can be made with the voice.
I was just stepping through the doorway into my little world of beatboxing at the time with an arsenal of about 5 sounds (ha). But somewhere in that 9 year old brain, I felt the strong notion that there was much more to this passion of mine. Michael Winslow was and still remains a huge inspiration and seeing him at a young age was the reason I stopped tip-toeing in the world of beatboxing.. and started running! 10000 sound effects with just the human voice? Absolutely! Just check out a few of the new school beatboxers, and the new sounds that beatboxers are coming out with. After 25 years of beatboxing, I still feel that the possibilities are endless!
